Ahmina's distance from the explosion of ground was safe enough to not be drawn into the vortex, and her thumper had survived it as well, continuing its lump-lump-lump... They had taken off too late, Shai-hulud was laying claim to them now, but there was still a chance that it would respond to her call - if they escape. Still, she got bombarded by a volley of debris, burrowing her underneath chunks of salt and rain of sand. She couldn't help them, they couldn't help her. She would have to dig herself out now, slowly, yet timely. Her own test continued.

The missile missed them by a mere metre, and meandered straight into the morbid, monstrous, melange-puffing maw. The maw closed for a moment, before it was torn apart again by a terrible roar as the column of fire out of the explosion was regurgitated. It was hard to find any approximation of human-known pain to the terrible sound, but as a consequence the worm dropped with a cascading thud on the ground and started to wiggle to burrow itself. It was hard to tell if this had even hurt him.

Death by sandworm, this most uniquely Arrakeen of deaths, was avoided.

Rabban, who only Bomilcar had seen and had yet to make the mental connection of face to person, had disappeared from the skies; at least his menacing thopter was nowhere to be spotted. The bad news was, they had depleted most of their fuel cells; maintaining the shield risked a quick touchdown, but even if they killed everything non-essential that was probably not enough to fly out of the Depression to whatever rock.

The warning indicator for the power drain goes unheeded by Bomilcar as he looks at Cuyler, then to Iq, slowly to Dorian, and finally to the seat Ahmina had been sitting in.

He lost someone. He failed. Certainly she was not some weakling that required his protection. She was a survivor, a Fremen, one that lived on survival's edge. But he had invited her with, brought her out here... gotten her killed. That was not what he was supposed to do. His core was shaken. Her water was lost to her people. He had failed them, he had failed himself, and he had failed her.

And then, "FUUUuuuuc..!" He shouted in the direction of the worm, a spray of blood flying from his mouth and splattering on the window. The word crumbles and dies at the angry exertion, not even able to express himself.

It was that man his cruel eyes... disgusting... I'll end him.

Whoever it was, he must have been some ruthless mercenary. Harkonnen used those to keep their hands clean. [Complication: Hired Gun Theory, next check of this kind is +1]

"What ate our options now?" Cuyler asked. "Do we have enough power to make it back?"

"No." Iqbal said flatly. "Now it's about getting out of this area as much as is possible."

"And then?" she asked. "Will we be able to request assistance or should we consider alternatives?"

Bomilcar was slowly starting to fume. He didn't have any answers, he lost a team member, and now they might bake in the depression.

His voice was super raspy from the damage done earlier. "Comm range?"

[Dorian Drake]

Thinking about options, Dorian spoke up, "What about the caves we picked you up from? It will be safe from sandstorm and if we can't get into comm range and are missing too long, that's where I'd start looking."

"Comm range, maybe. Not yet though. We'll deplete cells before we reach any rock nav has shown. There's some convection, we can do some gliding, but I don't think it's enough." Iqbal had indeed raised the thopter a bit to catch upward air currents.

"I have another comm that might have a longer reach." she said. "But, I'm not sure if it will help."

She took out the box and the communication device inside, switching it on.

"Hello? Are you there?"

She had to wait for a bit, but the seemingly familiar voice finally replied.

"I've been waiting for your call."

"We got a little distracted, with an adventure out in the depression." she explained.

Dorian listened intently, having heard about the origins of the box and the voice behind it.

"I am seeing your coordinates."

[Cuyler Gray]

"I know this isn't part of your offer, but out attackers left us low on power." she said. "You wouldn't happen to know of a safe location nearby, would you?"

"It isn't. I can help you but you'll owe me."
