Owing its name to the cliff overhang that shades teeth-like rocks beneath most of the day except early morning, Chin Rock has been under development for some time, although without great pace. Most of the buildings in the area look relatively new, though arguably haphazardly placed and of mediocre durability, giving the whole encampment a temporary feel as if no-one really expected for it to withstand a real storm. What is relatively solid are the landing fields and harvester pads, and several semi-vaults cut right into stone by industrial laser beams. The latter have different designations and purposes, but always steady Harkonnen presence. There seems to be quite a bit of military-grade thopters here, as if Chin Rock served some purpose in the Harkonnen strategic hold of Arrakis.

The geological composition of the Chin Rock is interesting, as in many ways it is an extension of patchwork minerals comprising the Pasty Mesa. There are volcanic rocks like basalt, but also karst formations, sandstones and hemalites. The sharp rocks underneath look very much like stalagmites of an old cave that had mostly crumbled, though it may be just ignorance of the geological processes on Arrakis speaking. Either way, the Harkonnen take delight in executing people by casting them off the ledge, what explains the carrion birds that seem to be in abundance here. Nature adapts quickly on this planet.

Water and electricity is mostly obtained from windtraps, which, like anything else, haven't been built in ways to withstand failure. Life here is a gamble.

Perhaps the most unorthodox thing is where the Spice Miner 'headquarters' are located. It's a single large stilltent at the verge of the encampment, just next to the outer fence. Even as the Miners have a two-story barrack, with a mess hall at the lower story and some offices on the upper.

There's also a small trading depot, run by some opportunistic traders who know that distance from basic amenities makes people spend their solaris with greater ease.
