Mt. Dmitri is the highest elevation on the planet, reaching 7.5km above sand level. Oxygen layer is very thin at the top, but it must offer a stupendous view of much of the Northern Polar Region as there aren't really clouds on Arrakis. A pity it's not exactly a tourist spot.

It used to have a different name but when the Harkonnen came they renamed it in honour of the man who had secured the siridar governorship for the House: Baron Dmitri Harkonnen, father of Vladimir and Abulurd. Actually, Abulurd did it during his brief and unsuccessful six-year stint as siridar governor of the planet, in line with Harkonnen tradition to imprint their entitlement onto the collective imagination wherever they go and whatever they claim. It hasn't stuck. Many inhabitants of Arrakis have their own ideas how to name this mountain. The Dune Men usually call it 'The Cock' when there is no Harkonnen around to overhear.

The mountain is a restricted area, mostly because of its strategic importance. The extent to which the Harkonnen have militarised it is not commonly known, though they certainly maintain some air power in its caves. What they covetously guard is a large spice refinery nestling at the foot of the mountain, fortified by both natural features and man-made walls. This is where spice miners drop their harvesters before they fly down to the Splintered Rock, or ride down on the lift. This is also where they undergo personal checks: spice malfeasance is punishable by death. Security is high.
