The Arrakeen spaceport is still the largest on Arrakis though the one in Carthag is quickly catching up, being the primary distribution center for industrial goods. Arrakeen's advantage lies in proximity to many spice operations across the Shield Wall and the infrastructure maintained for the purpose, including shelters and amenities for the Dune Men, shops and bars, who often don't want to mingle with the local populace. As the facilities are of critical importance, the security is high, and the sky is patrolled.

The landing field itself extends deep into the Imperial Basin, northeast of the city, and is spacious enough to service several dozens of vessels at any time, from lighters to haulers. The flinty scent of burnt silica permeates, with a touch of cinnamon drifting in the air. It is windy, but that brings no reprieve for the sun, and most seek immediate shelter after landing.

The personnel of the spaceport is dominated by contracted offworlders, as the Harkonnen don't trust the locals with matters critical to the unimpeded flow of spice into the Imperium.

It is a long walk to the city, so the natural way to get there is by Groundcar, or Thopter if your destination are the landing pads of the Residency.
