Re: After Dark [LE8]

So the worms were the source of oxygen. They performed some process similar to photosynthesis. But... the entire planet. On the backs of the worms. The number of them had to be staggering. Incomprehensible. On most planets it was forests and seaweed... here it was the worm. It didn't just rule, it ...

Re: After Dark [LE8]

So many questions without answers. Or were the answers more questions? The only way to measure infinity, to put a stop to anything, was to make a cut, to react to the universe by bringing violent will upon it. Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife - chopping off what's incomplete and saying: 'N...

Re: The Distrans Arrives [SMS8]

"It's Mapes, speaking with the authority of Liet." Stilgar claimed. "We should help them." "We cannot let them here any more than we could let the smugglers!" Someone shouted back. "That is not what Liet commands in the distrans." Stilgar replied, holding a cage with a bat within. "How do we know th...

Re: After Dark [LE8]

Then, a revelation struck Bom just when he'd been wondering about the water cycle: there was so much oxygen here, the atmosphere was perfectly breathable. But there were almost no plants in sight. Where was all the oxygen coming from? He remembered the odour of ozone when the worm had almost got them!

The Distrans Arrives [SMS8]

The commotion in the sietch just before dawn was unusual. Was it still about the smugglers? Ahmina had been resting, having previously done all she could do about the situation. But she felt it could be something new. Maybe Liet had come?

The Leap [LE8]

Chatt was actually taking a moment to drink some spice coffee in the yali his tribe had appropriated. It was at the lower levels, and the hum of the windtraps and the thicker whiff of water vapour tickled the nostrils. His baliset was nearby; he either must have player or strummed it, or was about t...

Re: After Dark [LE8]

"I want to believe." Cuyler whispered. But what was there to believe in? What kind of infinity, immensity, incomprehensibility? What kind of... God? Humankind had a rich stock of those. Cuyler's mind was like this desert below now, rippled by intricate and chaotic forms, but clean and empty, ready ...

No Man's Sky [SMR8]

As the had finally landed into a rocky gorge that was emptying into a cliff somewhere in the midst of it, they found themselves in a night like no other. Against the canvass of emptiness, there was life nestling in the hidden spaces - bats and other small rodents, insects and their avian vores, gras...

Re: After Dark [LE8]

Reins' errant behaviour drew attention to himself though; not enough to distract, but enough to put a red spot on his head. And that of his dog.
