[Day 2 - LE] Through Fire and Flame

Cuyler stood up and wiped her face clean as best she could. Looking around, she spotted Qobat and pieced together what happened. She rushed to his side to offer support if it was needed.

"We'll call for a medic."

[Kannon]

"Mind your CHOAM business, Mutelli." Qobat barked, having turned his pain into fury, as Salusa had taught him. He was gripping his bloodied knife, looking at the withdrawing Harkonnen. "You wanted to rake this sand, go rake it."

[Dorian Drake]

It was far from the ideal outcome, but maybe the only possible outcome when dealing with these Harkonnens. It was easy enough to keep from underestimating someone, but much more difficult not to overestimate them. Before today, Dorian wouldn't have thought the Harkonnens would be crazy enough to shoot lasguns at a shielded target outside of a desperate last stand, much less over... little sand critters. He would try his best not to make that same mistake.

Dorian was about to head towards the Sardaukar and Cuyler when he heard the man snap at his friend. Best to leave him be, not much that Dorian could do for him at this point. There was that Suk doctor in their delegation, he would have to call her in, just as soon as he retrieved his kindjal.

OOC: Keeping an eye on the Harkonnens, but searching for my kindjal.

"Alright." she nodded, turning her attention to the sand.

Now that the area quieted down, the hum of the shield was much more perceptible. It was still somewhere there, burrowed.

She did her best to find where the hum was loudest. Digging for it might be difficult, if not impossible, but they'd need a place to start.

It would take time and effort, but the shield could eventually be found and unearthed. It was in a relatively safe distance from where the Harkonnen had been shooting.

Enough time for the kindjal to be retrieved, the sandtrout to venture elsewhere to the greener pastures, except those that had been incinerated, and for the Suk doctor to arrive.

[Once the shield is dug out, Understand 2]

The thopter alighted on the nearest patch of reasonably stable sand. Lorra disembarked and made her way over to the group, quickly glancing among the assembled...that qualified for her attentions.

She moved to assess Qobat's injuries, asking the rest of the assembled, "Has anyone else been injured?"

It was unlikely she missed anything: she wasn't being paid to miss things, after all, but it never hurt to ask.

Dorian was relieved to recover his precious kindjal. To a swordmaster, his weapon was an extension of himself, to lose it would be like losing a limb. He spent a small amount of time cleaning it, taking water from his stillsuit into his mouth and dripping it onto the blade and polishing it with his robe.

Gently sheathing his blade, he heads over to assist Cuyler in digging through the sand until they find what she is hearing.

Gene begins to dust herself off, though her stillsuit was still dirty. Thankfully the medic and support arrived in time to assist, but it was clear that nothing further was going to come out of this exchange today. They seemed rather busy with...all that. This would only make more headaches for them in the future, no doubt.

"I'm fine." Gene says, looking them down. She knew how to kept her face and her tone from expressing her annoyance.

Despite Dorian's recklessness in retrieving the shield that messed up its placement, overloaded it with send pressure and actually broke it as the force field collapsed, Gene was able to tell that the item had been planted rather than had remained here after the explosion. The sand was looser over it, and it was attached to no body.

[Complication: Shield is Broken]

Who dared? There was only a partial suggestion on this on the shield itself. The buckle, albeit hastily tinkered with before and now broken, bore a shape that resembled a clamshell.

"Now, it looks as if this was placed after the explosion, so, let's carefully remove what's left of the device and bring it with us." Maybe something was buried underneath what remains of it. Maybe not. Worth a look now things had been dealt with.

Cuyler looked over what remained of the shield, but couldn't make anything of it.

"My apologies Lady Wallach, sometimes I don't know my own strength." Dorian replied a bit abashed.

Studying the item, Dorian asked, "What is a Hagal shield belt doing out here and why would it be placed there after the explosion?"

Qobat waited patiently, looking away from his stump, as if scorning it.

"If your hand is still about, there may be a chance it could be saved, reattached, and perhaps, full use of it may be restored." Lorra pointed out, noting how relatively clean the cut was. The cauterization may cause some trouble, but nothing that seemed insurmountable.

She also presumed the good Sardaukar would be more concerned with their being back to their full killing capability as soon as possible, rather than aesthetics or the other reasons mere mortals would feel the need to address a missing hand.

"This is for the pain." The Ixian explained, withdrawing a hypodermic from her coat before administering it to Qobat.

He didn't protest a Suk's intervention. "The hand is in the groundcar." He said impassively. He apparently had collected it.

Sending someone to retrieve the hand, if indeed it had not already been...at hand... Lorra examined the erstwhile extremity.

"It appears salvageable. We must get it, and you, out of this heat and into surgery promptly before tissue death sets in and...medical alternatives...will have to be utilized."

Lorra's eyes seemed to brighten at the prospect of these 'medical alternatives'.

The Sardaukar nodded and quickened their evacuation from this place.
