Suffer Not [SMS 4, Event]

[Traits: High Security | Limited Visibility | 2 Threat: Ruthless Harkonnen]

[This event is open to any who decides to spend the night hours in this area as it locks for outsiders after LE]

A blaring siren would alert anyone nearby that some security situation was occurring at the ill-fated Hour of Assassins. Had an assassination been discovered? Why would anyone make fuss of anything like that in a place like this? And yet, the shouts of Harkonnen troops soon joined the siren.

[Up to 4 characters, Yasim and Gene have a slot reserved for them for the first 24h; this event is likely to result in combat. No supporting characters allowed.]

The hour of assassins certainly was the one time of the night Reyyan Ebrahammi was most on alert. And this time it paid off.

Dorian was heading to his suite in the CHOAM Guesthouse, looking forward to accommodations more on par with his usual standards. The Frigate was acceptable, but by necessity, had somewhat limited amenities. It may be far and beyond what most of Arrakis could offer, but that didn't mean Dorian would turn down the opportunity to pamper himself a little, even if it was in the belly of the beast so to speak.

His excitement was curbed by the sound of klaxons blaring.

Gene wasn't much of a combatant, but still, she was capable enough of moving around. Or, at the very least, getting to a place where she could be around others who could beat people up. Either way, she had hopes to be able to get some sleep during her time, but that seemed unavoidable. Hopefully, whatever was going on she could avoid dealing with directly.

She'd really rather no have to test her rusty combat skills again.

He was a would be commander for his House and the Hagal. Yasim was confident, yet without Arrogance.

He knew what his responsibilities were.

Turning the corner, Dorian was disappointed to see a commotion near the CHOAM Guesthouse. He had so been looking forward to a peaceful day's rest in higher class accommodations.

[Complication: Dismissive.]

His first reaction was that the Harkonnen were after some ordinary fugitive; brutality was par the course for them, and they often made displays of it for the fear it cast around. That, and they also had those manhunts Rabban promoted, when people were treated as game.

Dorian was at the restaurant level of the guest house, having picked up some comfort food, heading upstairs to his suite. Was it worth it to do anything about it?

He was clueless because in his suite on the fifth floor of the guest house he was asleep, and the blaring didn't wake him. Perhaps heat fatigue and other maladaptation after arriving from a hycean world onto a desert, as well as spacelag, had finally caught up with him.

[Complication (2): Asleep]

Gene was at the shopping level of the guest house on the second floor, replenishing some personal items, when she heard it. There was a voice signal amid the blaring, one that she could nevertheless pick up because she'd been schooled to do it. The fugitive Harkonnen were chasing was a Bene Gesserit, calling for help.

Ever ready, the Sardaukar had reached the vantage point before others figured out the situation. Harkonnen were after someone who was trying to escape them.

[1 Scene Momentum, that can be used to be on whatever level of the guesthouse, in addition to normal uses.]

Well then, that was ever suspicious. She'd never hear the end of it if it were discovered that the Bene Gesserit were there and she'd ignore the call. They'd know it, of course, because it was hard to avoid. With that, she moved with swiftness to the location of the cry, choosing to be quiet and cautious over utilizing her full unnatural speed. If she was going to have to deal with this, she'd make sure would know the situation first.

Rules of the Event:

  • The guesthouse has six zones of conflict: five floors (hall, shops, restaurant, smaller suites, bigger suites), and the roof. The zones are contiguous in that order if you're using staircases, or adjacent in any way if you are using the elevator, but it takes one round of doing nothing to change zones this way if it's on your floor, two if it isn't, and there is only one. The elevator starts at the fourth level.
  • You know where you start by now. The Harkonnen are just outside and will enter the conflict on their turn, the fugitive is in the hall.
  • The fugitive is heading for the roof to grab one of the thopters and attempt an escape from Carthag by air. Eight Harkonnen minions are in pursuit, armed with knives, batons, and flechette pistols or lasguns. The Harkonnen are not hostile toward the player characters but may respond with violence to blatant attempts to stop them.
  • This is a skirmish. We go through structured time. Assets [like slippery floor] need to be created as per the rules of skirmish. But it may be rather unusual, so think creatively about the actions you take, also to generate Scene Momentum. You have a common pool, so please keep tabs of it after your every post.
  • Assume I spend 2 Threat on your every roll to increase difficulty by 1 until I run out.
  • Those who've suffered Complications: remember your can cast them off by giving me Threat.
  • Special rule: the fugitive fails and event ends if the Threat pool ever crosses 30.
  • Choosing not to help the fugitive is a legitimate choice. You play heroes only if you want it.
  • Fugitive is the first to move and it has already been done; unless you use your Talents or Threat, Harkonnen will go next.
  • Go with your questions to OOC Questions thread.

Dorian couldn't set aside his curiosity. While the food looked delicious, it could wait while he investigated the commotion down below.

He set his meal down on a nearby table and tried to quietly make his way down the stairs. Unfortunately, As he pushed through the door into the stairwell, he was met by a group hurrying to exit the stairwell and find shelter from whatever was happening down below. They hindered his path and were less than quiet about it.

It was the shouting that awoke the young man. Groggily getting to his feet, he began to figure out what was happening. Hearing the conflict, he rushed to join, leaving his suite with sword in hand.

"What's happening out here?"

Gene knew what she had to do now. Entering the building, she began to make her move around and start to assess the situation. She was stealthy as she could be.

She kept her eyes out as she moved in for a planned route, in the meantime, and left a signal to those who would know to look for it.

Reyyan was on the roof, naturally. It was the best vantage point to keep the guesthouse safe from. And the temperatures were actually bearable at night like this, especially in the armor.

She looked over the edge of the building in time to see the three run into the building below and made for the access hatch.

[Basically we should be doing this in turns : you/me unless someone Keeps the Initiative, but we'll keep it as is for this turn that I'll move all Harkonnen once once since they're doing just 'entering the scene'.]

Another two darted into the hall toward the elevator, and called it down.

[No Threat spent for additional guy because of Dorian's fail]

[The second complication still remains: Yasim in now Drowsy]

It was hard to tell immediately, and no-one really answered him, but the background noise told Yasim that whatever emergency it was, it was centred on the building he was in.

Meanwhile, two more Harkonnen waded into the hall and moved to the stairs.

[Yasim spent and I spent, no change.]

[The safest way was up the staircase unless she could catch the elevator and use it before any power cut-off. The best place for ambush was either at the shopping level where she actually now was (Floor 2) or amid the small rooms (Floor 4), where her 'asset' actually was.]

Gene had hid well just before the masked woman darted into the area, where there were indeed chances to hide. The Harkonnen grunts were not far behind though.

Below the shops, two more Harkonnen darted in, heading toward the elevator.

[2 Threat to make them move in pair.]

Reyyan saw a whole Harkonnen squad enter the building chasing after the nimble shadow. On the horizon, where the spaceport lights illuminated it, several 'fireflies' separated from the halo and were probably approaching. Guess whoever wanted to escape the Harkonnen was not supposed to.
